I feel like I wasted a morning today, pretty lazy.  We are hosting some professional soccer players from England at our house for a Challenger soccer camp my kids are doing this week.  They were so excited they could hardly stand themselves last night.  Its almost like they have never seen a house with a Pool Table, Pinball machine and full 7.2 surround sound theater in it before :)  So I was up late watching Iron Man 2 with them last night.

Woke up at normal time anyway and headed to the gym for 1 hour of elliptical and 30 minutes of weights.  Never really felt like I was working out.  I brought my bike up to my office (cube) and had my  friend adjust all the derailers and breaks for me so I can start commuting 3 -4 times a week on my bike.  I've decided between swimming and biking that will be my best non-running training I can do to start getting ready for St. George training.  I want to be done with elliptical, I feel like that is wasted time at this point.

The leg is feeling really good, but I want to give it as much time as possible before I start running on it so I can go into it full swing.

Smart!! I'm sure you won't have lost any fitness at all when you start your training for St. George :)

i really don't like the elliptical either. i think you can get a good workout on it, but i don't have the motivation to keep it moving long enough. :)

i have read several articles on cross training and what the best activity is to stay in good running shape. all signs point to pool running -- apparently fitness doesn't decrease at all with 6 weeks of pool running. i still haven't done it yet, because logistically it just doesn't work with my daily schedule. i don't love biking like i love running, but i do enjoy it, and it's something i can fit into my schedule and be motivated to do on a daily basis. if someone told me my only cross training option available was the elliptical, i really think i would give up and gain 50 pounds. :)

it looks like you have a great plan with the biking and swimming. keep it up and stay motivated. reading about what you are doing helps me stay motivated as well!

I don't really get the pool running thing. I think I'd get weird looks from the swimmers if I jumped in the pool with shoes on and started running back and forth. They'd be like, duh! stupid, the treadmills are upstairs.

I guess it can't be to surprising that the best cross training to simulate running is running (albeit in water). We all just need to own one of those endless pools. I actually like the fact that on the elliptical I can adjust my effort as I want without having to push a button to pull me along faster. Hang in there.

I hope you are healed up soon! It is so hard to stay off your running feet!
