Saturday afternoon I decided to take my son snowboarding, well first time getting off bunny hill lift we crashed into each other and I pulled my hamstring really bad, I couldn't even bend over to do my bindings. It hurt so bad Saturday night it kept waking me up. I thought for sure Boston was done, but after stretching iceing and relaxing all day yesterday it felt a lot better. This morning I work up almost normal. Started the run out slow to be safe but the longer I ran the better it felt. Pretty happy I seemed to get away with it this time.

12 miles in 1:27:55. 7:19 avg pace.

Another reason skiing > snowboarding

You know the hamstring drill - you have to really be careful w/ speed. When I pulled mine, I found that I could run about as fast as marathon pace, but any faster and it was trouble.

I'd be in the hospital if it would have been skiing.

I've found that same thing, slower speeds actually make it feel better. Fast speeds I start feeling like I'll pull it worse.

I think both of you are probably referring to hamstring strains. A true pulled hammy is much more debilitating than either of you describe.

Remember that you still have three months to screw up Boston. Good luck!

Just spreadin' some sunshine!

yes, I'm definitely talking strain, not a full pull. You're not running 12 miles on a real pulled hamstring.

But that being said, speed work can easily turn that strain into the real deal if you aren't careful. What I learned last fall was that when it feels back to 100%, it still needs a few more weeks.

Thanks for the the inspiring words Rob. I hope it's not still 3 months, I'm on a 3 months training plan.

I'm more specifically talking about when I pull my leg so far in the wrong direction that excruciating pain shoots all up the left side of my body to where I want to lay down in the snow and cry. What's the scientific term for that?

mild strain

I sure hope I never pull it.

Oh yeah... two months.
