Well, the first annual New Years Day FRB run was a huge success, I set out early this morning to stash some Gatorade along the route and checked out running conditions on the trail and road. Decided the road was was to slick to be safe and decided just running the river trail out and back was the safest option. Went back to the park and ride to meet up with everyone at 8:00 am. Allie showed up right on time, I found her easy by her Utah State Aggie license plate. We waited around in the cold for 20 minutes for any last stragglers and then finally the whole group (Allie and I) headed off. It was about 5 degrees at the start but I had anticipated it being very cold and actually over dressed, I think I had at least 1 extra layer of everything on, 2 pairs of socks, running tights with running pants over them, 3 shirts and a jacket, 2 pairs of gloves and a hat over a headband. I started out very comfortable and actually ended up stashing some clothes at the "aid station" ( my stashed cooler of gatorade) It turned out being a beautiful morning for running, the trail was for the most part clear with about 1" of snow over it to cushion the run, there were a few spots along the route where we had to dredge through a foot of snow, but nothing terrible. No wind and actually just a wonderful run. The conversation mostly consisted of how awesome we were, and how bad everyone else must feel back in their comfy warm beds watching re-runs of the New York Ball droping on the morning news. :) We really should try and plan another group run, and hopefully get more than 2 people next time. Those really slow miles 3, and 13 were due to a construction area with the foot of snow.
